The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin State University RFC (SFA) accepted an invitation to join the Southwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (SWC) today after SWC representatives unanimously voted in favor of admitting SFA back into the collegiate folds last evening. SFA had run afoul of USA Rugby's collegiate eligibility rules in 2011-2012 and decided to play in the Texas Rugby Union's Senior Men's Division 3 for 2012-2013. However, by the end of the season the would-be ineligible collegiate players had stopped playing or graduated, leaving SFA with a strictly collegiate team.
Going into the 2013-2014 season, the Lumberjacks of Nacogdoches, TX realized that they would be better off competing in collegiate rugby and sought to return. The landscape of Texas collegiate rugby has changed much in two seasons. Then, there were three distinct divisions (1, 2, & 3) with one CPD team. Now, there is are conferences in D1A, D1AA, and NSCRO. The Division 2 that SFA comfortably fit into is no more.
