Rookies Have Good Performance In 15's Season Opener - Texas State 25 - SFA 7

Stephen F. Austin Rugby played its first college competitive 15's match in over 2 years in San Marcus, TX this past weekend.

SFA fielded a team comprised of around ten plus rookies making their debut due to injury of some starters.

Despite this they gave a strong effort especially on the defensive side of the ball with stout tackling for the majority of the game and great conditioning for their first 15's match.

Their inexperience showed most during line outs in which they won very few contests and inside the 22 on offense. SFA penetrated the 22 on multiple occasions but never scored as a result. Back line play was mainly a non factor due to the injury to the starting and only scrumhalf in the first half of the match.

Also of note was a yellow card handed out to Cedric and a State player for fighting in the last 3 minutes of the match. SFA know fighting must be avoided at all costs to compete at this level.

A positive performance from SFA as they get back to work in the more athletic college division.
